Toyota has just announced that they are launching a Prius sub-brand. The first model to be released will be the 2012 Prius v.
Toyota claims that the new Prius variant is designed for “growing families with active lifestyles.” Although it may not look much different, the car has a larger footprint…which measures 181.7 inches long, 69.9 inches wide and 62.0 inches tall. The cabin room is very spacious as the wheelbase of the car is 109.4 inches. The rear leg room is enough for an adult to sit comfortably, and the cargo room is 34.3 cubic feet, which is located behind the rear seats.
Options will include a panoramic moon-roof, LED headlamps, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Advanced Park Guidance System, and the Entune multimedia system.
The Prius v will be stocked with a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine that puts out 98 horsepower. The engine is backed up by an 80 horsepower electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The car has a total output of 134 hp, and it achieves 42 mpg city / 38 mpg hwy in fuel economy.
It will go on sale in the summer of 2011.
